PTSD & Trauma Therapy

PTSD and Trauma Therapy in Fargo-Moorhead

After a frightening or painful experience, part of you may keep acting as if the danger is still close. You might have nightmares, avoid certain places, feel numb around people you love, or stay alert even when you want to relax.

These reactions can be confusing, but they make sense in the context of what happened. You don't have to tell your whole story at once, and you won't be pushed to discuss details before you feel ready.

Trauma can show up in everyday life

You may notice:

  • Unwanted memories, nightmares, or flashbacks
  • Feeling jumpy, guarded, or constantly alert
  • Avoiding reminders, conversations, people, or places
  • Numbness, disconnection, shame, or guilt
  • Trouble sleeping or concentrating
  • Anger, irritability, or shutting down
  • Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe

Not everyone responds to trauma in the same way. We'll talk about what is happening in your life now and what you want to be different.

What therapy may include

We begin by building safety, trust, and skills you can use when distress rises. CBT can help you examine painful beliefs about safety, responsibility, trust, and control. DBT skills can help with grounding, strong emotions, and difficult moments. SFBT helps us notice your strengths and define the changes that matter most to you.

You remain involved in decisions about pace and focus. We'll explain what we are doing and check whether it feels useful. If something is not helping, we'll adjust.

You can begin without telling every detail

Obaar offers trauma-informed therapy in our Moorhead office and through secure telehealth for eligible clients in Minnesota and North Dakota. Services are available in English and Somali.
