Depression Therapy in Fargo-Moorhead

Depression doesn't always look like crying or staying in bed. You might keep going to work, take care of everyone else, and feel almost nothing inside. It can make simple decisions feel heavy. You may be tired but unable to rest, surrounded by people but disconnected, or frustrated that you can't “just get motivated.”

Depression isn't a character flaw, and you don't have to wait until it becomes unbearable to ask for help.

When life feels flat, heavy, or far away

You may notice:

  • Low mood, numbness, or irritability
  • Less interest in people or activities
  • Low energy and difficulty starting tasks
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Harsh self-criticism, guilt, or shame
  • Pulling away from people
  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions
  • Feeling hopeless about the future

Your experience won't match every item on this list. Therapy begins with your story and how depression is affecting your daily life.

How therapy can help

We slow things down and look at the patterns that keep depression going. That may include isolation, avoidance, painful beliefs about yourself, disrupted routines, grief, trauma, stress, or the belief that nothing you do will make a difference.

CBT can help you notice thoughts that deepen hopelessness and test them against a fuller picture. We may also use behavioral activation, a practical way to rebuild activity, connection, and meaning in manageable steps.

SFBT helps us identify what you want life to look like, recognize moments when the problem has less control, and build on strengths you may be overlooking.

DBT skills may help when depression comes with intense emotions, shutdown, relationship conflict, or urges to cope in ways that create more pain later.

Therapy is collaborative. We'll not hand you a list of positive thoughts and expect you to feel better. We'll work with what is real, choose steps that fit your capacity, and adjust when something is not helping.

A small first step still counts

You don't have to feel hopeful before you begin. For some people, hope returns after they no longer feel alone with the problem.

Obaar offers in-person depression therapy in Moorhead and secure telehealth for eligible clients in Minnesota and North Dakota. Services are available in English and Somali.
